A shooting near England's World Cup base in Kansas City has left nine people injured just weeks before the Three Lions arrive in the city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to local authorities, police were called to reports of gunfire on Troost Avenue at around 4am on Saturday. Officers arrived to find a large crowd dispersing from the area.
Kansas City Police confirmed that nine adults suffered injuries and were taken to various hospitals. All injuries were reported to be non-life threatening. No arrests had been made as of Saturday, with investigations ongoing.
The incident occurred a short distance from the training base and team hotel England will use during the World Cup.
England are currently completing their preparations in Florida and are due to relocate to Kansas City on June 13, where they will remain for the duration of the tournament. The team will train at Swope Soccer Village, the home of Sporting Kansas City's reserve and academy teams.
The development will also be of interest to Ghana, who are scheduled to face England in a Group L clash in Boston on June 23.
While the shooting is not believed to be connected to the World Cup or any participating teams, it has drawn attention because of its proximity to England's tournament base.
Argentina and the Netherlands are also using Kansas City as their World Cup headquarters.
England opened their World Cup preparations with a 1-0 victory over New Zealand and will play Costa Rica in another friendly before beginning their campaign against Senegal. Ghana, meanwhile, will face Panama in their opening group match before taking on England and Croatia.
