England have been handed a fitness boost ahead of Tuesday's FIFA World Cup Group L clash against Ghana, with Declan Rice expected to be available despite picking up a minor injury against Croatia.
The Arsenal midfielder was substituted midway through the second half of England's 4-2 victory after experiencing discomfort in his lower back, prompting concerns over his fitness.
However, the issue is not expected to rule Rice out of the meeting with Ghana in Boston. The 27-year-old has reportedly been managing the problem for some time and will continue to be monitored throughout the tournament.
England manager Thomas Tuchel explained that he decided to take no chances after noticing Rice was not moving comfortably.
"Declan had some unusual ball losses, and I saw a bit of discomfort," Tuchel said after the match.
"I asked him, and he pointed directly to his lower back, upper hamstring, where he felt the discomfort. I didn't want to take any risks."
The German coach added that Rice reassured him after the game and does not believe the injury is serious.
"We will take care of it, and it's nothing big to worry about," Tuchel said.
Rice's expected availability is a major boost for England as they prepare for a crucial encounter with Ghana, with both teams looking to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stages.
