Ghana international defender Abdul Mumin has completed a move to Spanish side Girona FC, joining the club on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 season, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm
The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a three-season contract with Girona that will keep him at the club until June 2029. His arrival is expected to strengthen the club’s defensive options following several changes to the backline during the summer transfer window.
Born in Accra on June 6, 1998, Mumin stands at 1.88 metres and is known for his physical strength, aerial ability and competitiveness in defensive duels.
The Ghana international began his football development at the renowned Right to Dream Academy before moving to Europe to continue his professional career.
Mumin spent significant periods of his career with Danish club FC Nordsjaelland and Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes before making the switch to Spain in 2022, when he joined Rayo Vallecano.
During his time at Vallecas, Mumin gained valuable experience in La Liga and made more than 60 official appearances for the Madrid-based club.
His familiarity with Spanish football is expected to help him settle quickly into Girona’s system.
On the international stage, Mumin made his senior debut for Ghana in June 2024. He has since established himself as part of the Black Stars setup and was included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Girona believe the experienced defender can bring greater stability, physical presence and depth to their defensive unit as they prepare for another demanding campaign.
The move represents another important chapter in Mumin’s European career, with the Ghanaian now set to compete for a regular starting role at Girona and continue his development at the highest level of Spanish football.
