Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren remains optimistic about Ghana's chances of advancing to the knockout stage of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), insisting his side can qualify if they reproduce their second-half display against Cameroon.
Ghana suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in their second Group D fixture at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday, ending their unbeaten start to the tournament and leaving qualification to the quarter-finals hanging in the balance.
Reflecting on the performance after the match, the Swedish tactician admitted the Black Queens were below their usual standards in the opening half but praised their response after the interval, describing it as the level his team must maintain in their final group game.
"If we play as we did in the second half against Mali, we have a good chance of getting out of the group," Björkegren said.
The defeat leaves Ghana second in Group D with three points from two matches, setting up a decisive final group encounter against Mali on August 6.
Both teams will head into the clash needing a positive result to boost their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals in what promises to be a crucial contest.
Beyond a place in the last eight, the tournament also carries added significance, with the four semi-finalists earning qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
