Ghana placed in pot 3 ahead of 2027 Women's World Cup Play-off draw
Ghana have been placed in Pot 3 ahead of the preliminary-phase draw for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup Play-Off Tournament, which will take place at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich on Thursday, August 20, 2026.The Black Queens will be joined in Pot 3 by Ecuador. Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan have been placed in Pot 1, while South Africa and Papua New Guinea make up Pot 2. The seeding is based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's World Ranking as of June 16, 2026.The preliminary phase will see the six nations divided into three groups of two teams each, with teams from the same confederation prevented from being drawn against one another.Each team will play three matches, with the top two overall advancing to the final phase of the play-off tournament.The preliminary phase is scheduled for the international window between November 24 and December 5, 2026.The two teams that advance from the preliminary phase will join four nations that qualify directly for the final phase: two from Concacaf, Venezuela from CONMEBOL, and one from UEFA.The final phase will be played between February 23 and March 6, 2027, with single-match ties determining the final three qualifiers for the tournament.The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup will be hosted by Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027, across eight host cities. It will be the first edition of the women's World Cup to be staged in South America.Ghana secured their place in the play-offs after a 2-1 victory over Cte d'Ivoire, with Josephine Bonsu scoring the winning penalty. The Black Queens are now one step closer to securing a place at the World Cup for the first time since 2007.For Ghana, the draw will determine their path to qualification and the opponents they must overcome to reach Brazil.
