Ghana international Antoine Semenyo and his Manchester City teammates suffered a disappointment in the FA Community Shield on Sunday after losing 3-0 to Arsenal.
The Black Stars attacker started the match for City and played the full 90 minutes, but could not help his side find a way past an Arsenal team that dominated the contest.
The defeat denied Semenyo and his Manchester City teammates the opportunity to begin the new season with silverware.
On the matchday, Arsenal needed only a minute to take the lead. After receiving a pass from Lewis-Skelly, Riccardo Calafiori found space before firing a shot into the bottom-left corner to put the Gunners ahead.
City struggled to respond as Arsenal continued to threaten in attack, and the Premier League champions extended their lead in the 28th minute.
Christos Tzolis delivered a cross towards Kai Havertz, who met it with a header that beat Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 2-0.
City had an opportunity to reduce the deficit before half-time when Erling Haaland ran onto a loose pass inside the Arsenal penalty area.
The Norwegian striker struck a low effort towards the middle of the goal, but David Raya read the attempt and made a comfortable save.
Later in the 48th minute, Tzolis again provided the assist, picking out Martin Odegaard inside the penalty area.
The Arsenal captain took advantage of the opportunity and fired his shot into the bottom-left corner to make it 3-0.
City were unable to produce a response during the remainder of the match as Arsenal comfortably protected their advantage.
Semenyo completed the match but was unable to influence the contest enough to change City's fortunes.
