The 2026 X1 DOL Super Cup provided a valuable platform for the Ghana Football Association’s Catch Them Young referees to gain competitive experience and showcase their abilities.
A total of 16 young match officials, comprising eight centre referees and eight assistant referees, were appointed to officiate matches during the fifth edition of the tournament in Obuasi.
The appointments formed part of the GFA’s Catch Them Young Referee Policy, which seeks to identify, develop and expose promising young officials to competitive football.
The young referees successfully officiated throughout the competition, gaining valuable experience while operating in a demanding tournament environment.
Their involvement in the X1 DOL Super Cup represents another step in the GFA’s efforts to build a strong pathway for the next generation of match officials.
The tournament also provided the young referees with an opportunity to work in a competitive setting alongside more experienced officials and develop their decision-making and match-management skills.
The successful completion of the competition further underlines the importance of providing young referees with regular opportunities to officiate meaningful matches as they work towards progressing to higher levels of Ghanaian football.
