Rennes demand more as Marseille interest in Alidu Seidu heats up

Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has not trained with Rennes in recent days as he pushes for a move away from the Ligue 1 club, with Marseille's pursuit of the 26-year-old currently at an impasse.

Marseille have already submitted an offer for the versatile Ghanaian international, but Rennes are holding out for a higher fee, leaving negotiations between the two French clubs at a standstill.

Seidu is among several players placed on the transfer list by Rennes, alongside Djaoui Cisse and Breel Embolo. The trio have been told to resolve their futures before the transfer deadline.

Rennes have created a "loft" – a group of players excluded from the first-team squad – to push the three players towards a departure. According to L'Équipe, Seidu is training individually as he prepares for an exit.

Seidu remains under contract with Rennes until June 2029, having extended his deal in 2025. The Ghana international joined Rennes from Clermont Foot in 2024 for a fee of €11 million. He has become an important defensive option when fit, making 24 appearances across all competitions last season.

Marseille value the defender at around €10 million, while some reports estimate his worth at €6 million. However, Rennes are demanding a higher fee, and the two clubs have been unable to reach an agreement.

The versatile defender, capable of playing at centre-back and right-back, would be a valuable addition to the Olympians' squad. Marseille's interest could provide Seidu with an opportunity to remain in Ligue 1 while taking on a new challenge.

For now, talks remain stalled, but Seidu is increasingly expected to leave Rennes before the transfer window closes.

The coming days will be crucial in determining whether the Ghanaian international makes the switch to Marseille or secures a move elsewhere.
