Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says he plans to sign experienced foreign players ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The South African was confirmed as the new head trainer for the Porcupine Warriors after a disappointing campaign last season.
Tinkler guided Kotoko to secure a 1-0 win over Heart of Lions on Tuesday at the University of Ghana Stadium as part of their preparations for the upcoming season.
Having already parted ways with some players ahead of the season, Tinkler said there are plans to recruit experienced, foreign-based players.
“We needed to do a lot of scouting over the past three, four weeks; you know, it’s been pretty tough for Stanley and myself because we haven’t had much sleep," Tinkler told Asante Kotoko media.
“Looking at so many videos of players both locally and obviously internationally and looking to strengthen the team, and when that happens, obviously it does take a knock-on effect in terms of creating that solid foundation that I was speaking about when it comes to the physical necessity of the game.
“So a lot of new faces, a lot of foreign-based players, they come with a lot of experience as well, which I think is very important.
"There is one or two surprises that are coming in terms of our signings, and I think you are going to see a team that is going to fight to compete," he added.
Asante Kotoko is scheduled to face their traditional rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup to further prepare his squad for the demands of the league.
The Porcupine Warriors will open their 2026-27 league campaign away from home against newly promoted Debibi United.
