Northampton Town manager Chris Hogg has backed Nathan Opoku to prove a valuable addition to the club after completing his move from Leicester City.
The Ghanaian striker has joined Northampton on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, becoming the club’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window.
Hogg believes Opoku’s unconventional career path has given him valuable experience ahead of his new challenge, with the 25-year-old having spent time in the United States, Belgium and England.
“We believe Nathan is another good signing for the club,” said manager Chris Hogg.
“He has had a different journey to most players but that has helped him gain a good breadth of knowledge and experience and he is an excellent age.”
Opoku spent the last three years with Leicester and gained experience through loan spells with OH Leuven in Belgium and Newport County in League Two.
The forward impressed during his time at Newport last season, scoring six goals in 16 starts and finishing as the Exiles’ leading scorer.
Hogg believes that experience means Opoku understands the demands of English football and can make an immediate contribution.
“He has spent the last three years at Leicester City and enjoyed loan spells both in Europe and last season in League Two so he knows the level and he has scored goals at this level,” he added.
The Northampton boss also praised Opoku’s attitude, describing him as a hardworking and driven player with strong character.
“He is driven and ambitious and he will give us different options, different strengths and more variation in attacking areas.”
