The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, yesterday promoted 17 police personnel to their next ranks for exhibiting bravery and dedication in the discharge of their duties.

The newly promoted officers are from Volta and Ashanti Regional Police Commands.

Two separate ceremonies held in the Volta and Ashanti regions within a period of two days, attracted the attention of ‘The Turnaround Tiger’.

A Nigeria bound Liberty Jeep was intercepted with a consignment of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, valued at approximately GHC1,032,650.00 (One million, thirty-two thousand, six hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis).
The suspect driver, Charles Adenkule, 46, allegedly offered the policemen a bribe of $20,000.00 (Twenty thousand dollars), which they rejected. The suspect was arrested and sent to Ho, the regional capital for interrogation.
Then on Friday January 23, 2026 another team from the PID, DLEU and the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID), based on intelligence they received that narcotic drugs were being transported to Ho, mounted a snap check point at OLA TOP, a suburb in the municipality. A few hours later, a Ghana Health Service (GHS) ford bus pulled up at the barriers and was signalled to stop but the driver refused and rather sped off.
The vehicle was later arrested and upon a search conducted, 26 (twenty-six maxi sacks containing 2,045 (two thousand and forty-five) yellow oval-shaped parcels containing compressed leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp with a street value of GHC1,022,500.00 (One million, twenty-two thousand, five hundred Ghana Cedis) were found in it.
The driver, Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, 38, who officials of the GHS confirmed is a staff member, is assisting with investigation.
On Friday January 23, 2026, police officers at Jacobu, Bepotenten Sukuum, in the Ashanti South police region, recovered a pump action gun from a 15-year old boy and instructed him to inform the owner to report to the police with the proper documents.
While returning from patrols, the team was confronted by a crowd numbering about one hundred who blocked the road armed with cutlasses and firearms. The group assaulted the police officers and seized a service rifle.
In the ensuing confrontation, the assailant who had taken the service weapon was shot by police and another was injured. The service rifle was successfully recovered.
Meanwhile, three senior police officers who are part of the various teams that were promoted have been referred to the Appointments and Promotions Advisory Board (APAB) of the service for consideration.
