Preparations for the burial and final funeral rites of the late Apostle Emeritus Professor Ing Kwadwo Safo have reached their final phase, as his family and the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission intensify efforts to give the revered spiritual leader, inventor, industrialist and philanthropist a befitting farewell.
The family says it has set aside earlier differences over succession issues and is now united in honouring the remarkable life and legacy of one of Ghana’s most celebrated innovators and nation-builders.The burial will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at the Kantanka Automobile Manufacturing Centre at Gomoa Mpota, in the Central Region.
The facility, founded by the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, stands as a symbol of his vision to establish a wholly Ghanaian automobile manufacturing industry.In line with his final wishes, a memorial edifice has been completed within the industrial complex to preserve his legacy.
The facility will serve as a permanent museum, housing his personal belongings including his clothing, footwear, engineering tools, inventions, prototypes and selected works.The memorial is expected to provide future generations with a unique opportunity to appreciate his contributions to engineering, science, technology, industrialisation and national development.
A national funeral service will follow on Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Black Star Square in Accra, where thousands of mourners from across Ghana and abroad are expected to pay their final respects.
The ceremony is expected to attract a wide array of dignitaries from the political, traditional, religious, diplomatic and business communities. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lead the nation’s tribute, accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, ministers of state and senior government officials.
Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are also expected to attend, alongside former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and national executives of both the NPP and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, together with Members of Parliament, from both the Majority and Minority Caucuses, is also expected at the funeral.
As part of Parliament’s tribute, the Speaker has directed that a statement be delivered on the floor of the House in honour of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, with lawmakers expected to pay tribute to his immense contributions to Ghana’s industrial, scientific and technological development.
Parliament TV is also expected to air a special documentary throughout the week highlighting his life, inventions and achievements, including his work in engineering, automobile manufacturing, agriculture and education.
The funeral is expected to draw thousands of members of the KristoAsafo Mission from across Ghana, as well as international church delegations, family members, friends, admirers and well-wishers.
The final funeral observances will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.Apostle Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo is remembered for his pioneering contributions to engineering, automobile manufacturing, agriculture, education, science and technology. His advocacy for self-reliance and indigenous industrialisation helped shape Ghana’s technological landscape and inspired generations to believe in African innovation and ingenuity.
