Telecommunications company AirtelTigo has commended the Bank of Ghana, the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) and all stakeholders who partnered to launch the Mobile Money Interoperability project.
The mobile money interoperability project was launched on Thursday, May 10 and would allow people send money across mobile money networks seamlessly, a platform the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Y. Addison, described as “the full modernization of the payment and settlement systems”.
Chief Executive Officer of AirtelTigo Ms Roshi Motman expressed the readiness of her outfit for the interoperable platform and described same as one that will better serve the financial needs of Ghanaians.
“We welcome this giant step which will help our customers and all Ghanaians to enjoy increased convenience to send and receive money from one mobile wallet to another across networks in real time and reduce fraudulent transactions,” she said.
“We believe this implementation will play a key role in enhancing the use of mobile financial services and deepen financial inclusion,” she added.
She encouraged innovation in the industry and said the company will continue to collaborate with the regulator – the Bank of Ghana – and all other stakeholders to ensure the principles for interoperability are achieved.
She also announced that AirtelTigo has been live on the interoperability platform since the launch of the project and urged customers to send and receive money across networks on AirtelTigo.
