The 2018 Women in PR Ghana Summit has been held in Accra with a call on women not to settle for less but press for progress and work hard to merit positions and not just be offered one because of being women.
The event attracted hundreds of women Public Relations professionals to share ideas and network.
It was on the theme: ‘Press for Progress; PR women making strides” which was fashioned along the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration.
Different speakers took turn to encourage young female PR professionals to strive for progress within their professional capacities as professionals.
The speakers encouraged women who aspire to be recognised and occupy management positions to brace themselves up.
Speakers at the event included ace broadcaster Shemima Muslim, Senior Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Relations, Sinabye-StillWater(South Africa), Thabisile Phumo, Team Lead, Agrihouse Communications, Albert Nana Akyea Akosa among other notable speakers.
They took participants through topics such as, social media marketing and its importance, finding ones niche in PR, gender and leadership and PR and many other topical issues bothering on the [practice of PR].
There was a panel discussion on the topic: ‘a seat at the table, do women merits it by virtue of being women?’
The session was moderated by Paulina Kuranchie, a lecturer at the Department of Public Relations at the Ghana Institute of Journalism with panelists including Shirley Tony Kum of Vivo Energy Ghana.
The rest include Rita Rockson of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, Praise Nutakor, Communications Analyst at United Nations Development Programme and Clarence Amoatey, General Manager of Touchpoint Magna Carta.
Founder of Women in PR Ghana, Faith Senam Ocloo stated that it is the vision as an organization to be the first point of call for PR Women- students and practitioners alike who may need some form of assistance, advice, career support related issues, mentorship, internship opportunities.
The Women in PR Summit is an annual event aimed at convening resourceful PR Practitioners from across various sectors of Public Relations, Communications and the Media landscape.
It is aimed at creating impactful and inspiring conversation on Women and Public Relations.
