Hundreds of TV3 viewers and listeners of various radio stations under the Media General Group showed up in front of the Oxford Street Mall on Saturday to donate blood to save lives.
The blood donation exercise is an initiative of Media General’s corporate social responsibility arm, 3Foundation.
February, which is globally recognised as the month of love, is usually characterized by activities aimed at showing love to many.
It is against this background that 3Foundation put together the blood donation exercise to also show love to the many people out there who may need blood to survive.
Speaking on behalf of the 3Foundation, Akosua Agyei Sono said although the foundation has embarked on blood donation exercises over the years, this is the first time it is being done outside the premises of the media firm.
“This is our corporate social responsibility where we give back to society.
“We have done quite a number of them, and we always do it at our premises, but we felt in this month of love, we will bring it closer to the people, and this is the way we wanted to do it, to bring it to their doorstep, and we have had quite a number of people come out to donate,” she said.
Over the years, the 3Foundation has come up with various initiatives as a means of giving back to society, key among such is the hole-in-heart project in partnership with MTN Ghana. In that partnership, children with hole-in-heart conditions are taken through surgery.
“The 3Foundation has initiatives in the area of education, health and community development and the blood donation exercise falls under our health initiative,” Akosua Agyei Sono said.
Central Region representative in the 2018 Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, Tewa, was also at the Oxford Street Mall together with some other past contestants to also assist and make a donation.
