The Power Distribution Service (PDS) Ghana is embarking on a 1.6 million-cedi expansion project to improve power supply in the Kumasi metropolis.
The project will help increase load capacity from 80 to 120 volts in Kumasi.
It was necessitated by the regular power outages recorded on the main substations at Ridge and Abrepo.
A tower line from Ahodwo roundabout to ‘Plus 2’ area in the metropolis is under construction.
Underground cables are also being converted to overhead lines to ease maintenance works.
The six-month long project is expected to cover areas like Anwomaso, Ejisu, Effiduase, Fawode, Ridge, Barekese, Offinso, Suame and Neoplan.
Public Relations Manager of Ashanti PDS, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, said the project will provide reliable and stable power supply to boost economic growth in the city.
