Media conglomerate Media General has announced the second edition of its annual start-up fair and funding summit will be held in Accra in December.
The fair is to showcase the potential of start-ups to investors and to open up funding opportunities to entrepreneurs who want to expand.
Speaking at the Gorbefest Celebrations at the Kuntunse Satellite Methodist Church on Sunday, Head of Business Desk at Media General Alfred Ocansey said Media General is committed to supporting start-ups and young entrepreneurs succeed.
“We are going to do the second edition in Accra in the first week of December at the Accra Mall or the Junction Mall,” he said.
According to him, one of the many challenges facing start-ups and young entrepreneurs is exposure, and Media General is there to help entrepreneurs with this through the start-up and funding summit.
“There are a lot of great and amazing things across the country but they don’t have the means to be exposed.”
Media General hosted over 50 businesses in its maiden Start-Up and Funding Summit at the Aviation Social Center in Accra and held similar events in Kumasi and Takoradi earlier this year.
Mr Ocansey admonished young entrepreneurs to use both traditional media and social media to sell their businesses.
Gorberfest started four years ago to focus on solutions to the problems of young people.
This year’s celebration was on the theme, ‘Entrepreneurship: Ghana’s hope for job creation and sustainable youth development’.
First runner-up of the 2017 Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) pageant Baaba Botchwey, who was also in attendance, used the opportunity to dispel a misconception that entrepreneurship was for those who were not schooled.
According to her, it was not too late for those who have academic certificate and vocational skills to start up their own entrepreneurial ventures.
