A 28-year-old man, Alegbe Dodzi, was physically assaulted by two police officers stationed at the Railway Police Station near Agartha Market in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The suspect is alleged to have stolen GH¢1,600 belonging to his boss despite him denying it.
After being physically assaulted at the charge office, he confessed taking GH¢350 and not the amount his boss is alleging.
The incident occurred last week after the police had detained the suspect for over 48 hours.
But video of the torture of the suspect went viral with many questioning the audacity of the officers to mete out such corporal punishment.
The officers were said to have used belts to lash him in an effort to make him confess stealing the GH¢1,600.
The video is said to have been shot by the boss.
The suspect is currently out of police cells, 3news.com gathers, but the victim’s family is not happy about the incident.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says it is aware of the incident and taking action on it.
A report has been filed by the Eastern Regional Police Command, ACP David Eklu said on TV3‘s News 360, and investigations have begun.
“Let us have some patience and investigate and come out with the fact.”
