As part of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of traditional herbal medicine in Ghana, Media General’s Onua FM and Onua TV in collaboration with the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine (GHAFTRAM) have put together a fair to allow traditional medicine producers showcase their herbal products.
The two-day fair, which began Tuesday, October 29, has so far seen over 100 traditional medicine producers show up to display their products.
The anniversary celebration is under the theme ‘The Role of Traditional Medicine in Ghana Towards Achieving Universal Health Coverage; The Journey So Far’.
Speaking at a ceremony to officially kick start celebrations, General Secretary of GHAFTRAM Nana Kwadwo Obiri said traditional medicine has been in existence for years, and the Federation is focused on putting it to good use to treat the different diseases that many suffer.
He invited Ghanaians to pass through the fair ongoing at the Osu Presbyterian Church.
“We are urging anyone with any sort of ailments to come and get yourself some good traditional medication.”
General Manager of MG Radio Francis Doku said Onua FM and Onua TV decided to partner GHAFTRAM for its anniversary activities as part of efforts to give traditional medicine the needed attention.
“We felt that this is something laudable…we came on board so that we expose traditional medicine and give small businesses an opportunity to display their products.”
The two-day fair will also see traditional doctors offer free medical screening for participants.
