Astute human resource practitioner Andrews Osei Okrah has been elevated to Fellow of the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP) Ghana.
At a conferment ceremony held in Accra on Friday, November 8, Mr Okrah together with nine others were made Fellows while three others were made Honorary Fellows.
Mr Okrah, who has served on the National Governing Council of IHRMP, expressed happiness with the recognition but acknowledged the huge responsibilities it comes with.
“The award is a great thing to me in the sense that HR as a profession is a very challenging area and to be able to practise HR, manage thousands of people and indirectly manage millions of people and finally working through a professional body serving as a National Governing Council member, leaving and still serving the body and for the leadership to recognize you and elevate you to a fellow status, has huge responsibilities,” he said.
He indicated that Fellows assume a role of think-tank for the Institute by managing and mentoring practising officers for them to give off their best.
Among the members elevated to Fellows are Samuel Ransford Asiedu, Felicia Osafo, Robert Quaye, Mildred Sika Tettey and Leonard Quarcoopome.
The rest are Evans Bayitse, George Anto-Boateng, Dr Anthony Kwame Apedzi and Dr Kwame Nyamekye.
Former Chief Executive Officer of Volta River Authority (VRA) Kweku Andoh Awotwi, George Tetteh Adamah and Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee were elevated to Honorary Fellows.
“We the Fellows will avail ourselves and give mentoring and coaching to young ones,” Mr Okrah assured.
He called on the young practitioners to upgrade themselves and register with the Institute.
“When you look at ACCA, lawyers and many other professions, they have certain licenses in operating. You cannot just get up and operate as a lawyer after going through your course, this is what you do. We want you after your degree to undertake the professional certification course so that you get the practical skills and tools to work.”
Mr Okrah’s citation read: “This is to certify that Mr Andrews O. Okrah having satisfied the qualifying requirements prescribed by the National Governing Council and as defined in the Constitution of the Institute, was conferred a FELLOW of IHRMP, Ghana, on Friday, the 8th Day of November, 2019 and is entitled to all privileges and rights pertaining to that status”.
Aside being a certified HR practitioner, Mr Okrah is an experienced leadership consultant, mentor, conference and motivational speaker.
He is the Managing Partner of Alica Consulting Ltd, an HR development and executive leadership training firm.
He has previously served as HR Director for Forestry Commission, Board Chairman of Student Loan Trust Fund and a member of the Governing Board of the Ghana Employers Association.
He is also a former Deputy Ashanti Region Minister.
