After recording an imported case of Covid-19 from Nkwanta in the Oti region, the Kpandai District Assembly has intensified education and provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other materials to combat any spread of the virus.
The Assembly is also considering procuring more nose mask for residents.
The District in April this year recorded an imported case of Covid-19.
The patient, a male, was one of the 13 persons who tested positive at Nkwanta en route to the north from Accra.
The situation, according to the Kpandai District Assembly, brought fear and panic to the people.
This prompted authorities at the Assembly to put in place more measures to curb any spread.
Community visitations by the education team inaugurated by the Assembly was intensified as well as the provision of PPEs.
Presenting some PPEs to the health directorate in Kpandai, District Chief Executive Emmanuel Kofi Tatablata assured the directorate of the continuous support of the Assembly.
He admonished the people to change their attitude and adhere to the hygienic protocols rolled out by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
“We had to up our strategies to mitigate any potential spread by the patient which yielded a positive result,” he revealed.
Receiving the items, the Kpandai District Director of Health, Vida Buohe, applauded the support provided by the Assembly since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.
She is optimistic the collaboration of the assembly and the people will avert any future cases.
Meanwhile, a second test on the patient who tested positive in Kpandai has proven negative.
Fifteen other suspected contacts whose samples were taken for test also tested negative.
A third test on the patient will be carried out by next week.
