Some nine foreigners who crossed into Ghana’s Upper West Region through unapproved routes from Burkina Faso have been arrested and repatriated.
The nine include eight (08) Burkinabes and a Nigerien who is a resident in Burkina Faso.
They comprise 4 female and 5 male between the ages of 5 and 36 who were believed to be economic migrants en route to Bole, Tuna and Kumasi for farming activities.
The Upper West Regional Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul- mumin Seidu told 3news.com that the nine were arrested at 3 different unapproved routes in the Region.
This brings the total number of irregular migrants who have been arrested since April 2020 after the border closure to 255 in 33 separate arrest.
“At about 0930HRS, 1130HRS and 1430HRS, the vigilant Immigration Officials on duty at Beat 2, Beat and Botoma, all unapproved routes bordering Burkina Faso, busted the ECOWAS nationals who sneaked into Ghana.”
They were ceased on motor bikes: one had registration number 32-MU-8397 but the other two were unregistered, he added.
The Port Health personnel screened the migrants before they were handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities on the other side of the border.
