Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi says with the support of the next NDC government, Ghana Premier League players will receive nothing less than GH¢1,500 as salary.
Sammy Gyamfi says the implementation of the policy will help clubs in Ghana to make the fulfillment of the salaries and uplift the game in the country.
There have been several complaints about player exodus in the country due to poor salaries, lack of proper branding of the Ghana league and a general disregard for player welfare but all these, the NDC claim, will be problems of the past if they clinch power on 7th January, 2021.
“The NDC will establish a Sports Development Fund. The government will furnish the account with enough money and also generate some from corporate bodies,” he told Kumasi FM.
“Every club that plays in the [Ghana] Premier League will be supported with funds to settle player salaries, an average money of GH¢1,500 will be paid to each player.
“Every club that qualifies to play in the CAF Inter-club competition will also be supported. The inter-colleges games will also be supported financially with this fund.
“However, clubs that transfer players abroad will give a percentage of the money they earn into the sports fund.”
