On Sunday night, Manchester United is set to face a massive challenge in Liverpool at Anfield in what looks a battle between two giant sides. The home team looked a little tentative in their last fixture and would be looking to get back to their best, to keep that top spot for themselves.
On the other hand, Manchester United have no signs of backing down without a fight after having momentum riding their back. This sets up the perfect platform for an interesting clash in Liverpool’s backyard.
For Liverpool, Sadio Mane has been sharp and the game changer for the team since his inception. He has 12 goals and 3 assists in 31 matches.
The Manchester United attack has shown drastic improvement in the last few games after scoring consistently in the last few outings.
Bruno Fernandes has been the best player for the side on the pitch since joining the Old Trafford faithfuls. He has played a total of 31 games, scoring 19 and assisting 14 times in the EPL.
Fernandes is also United’s leading goalscorer in the top flight so far this season with 11 strikes.
In his presser, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was invited to assess the influence of the Portuguese at Old Trafford.
“He is an outstanding player,” said Klopp of Fernandes, who won his fourth player of the month trophy in 2020 by picking up the award for December on Friday.
“Before he joined United we played already Sporting on the US tour (in 2019) and in that game already you could see ‘wow’.
“Obviously everybody knew him. You could really see he was a difference maker, that’s what he shows now. He is settled, he’s a very influential player for United, involved in a lot of things.
“People talk about the goal involvements, but the link-up and other situations as well. He seems to be a leader as well, so unfortunately a good signing for United.”
Both clubs looks set to do battle in a title race for the first time since 2008/09 when United emerged victorious under Ferguson.
