The District Security Council (DISEC) of Amansie Central in the Ashanti Region says the assembly is deepening its task force presence at all galamsey-prone areas to flush out miscreants devastating the environment.
DISEC Chairman Kwame Asamoah Boateng in an interview on Akoma FM‘s current affairs and political talk show GhanAkoma explained that “our area has been flagged as a major haven for illegal miners. We have had tough time in fighting these artisans from the enclave but we have taken steps further to increase our patrols to flush out all those miscreants tormenting our ecology.”
He was speaking with host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
Pictures and videos of devastated areas within the Amansie Central enclave have been trending on social and mainstream media, a situation that has sparked national concern.
To address the growing environmental issues in the area, the DCE together with a task force has dotted security officers across the enclave to ward off illegal miners.
Mr Asamoah Boateng further discounted claims that he has been neck deep in a menace he’s supposed to fight.
He explained that “these are allegations deliberately organized by some persons whom by reasons best known to them, so I will entreat the public to treat such claims with the contempt it deserves”.
He further added that “you know this season is very volatile for we the MMDCEs because of reappointments, suitors and opponents are just taking advantage of our situation, because I have never indulged in these illegal mining business”.
Although President Nana Akufo-Addo has deployed 200 military personnel to patrol water bodies within Western and Central regions, this move by the Amansie Central Security Council complements the president’s move to address the surging environmental insecurity in the country.
