Highly-rated Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku is reported to have agreed a long-term deal with Liverpool but will be loaned out.
According to local media reports, Issahaku has signed a five-year contract with Liverpool after passing his medical in Germany.
He was in Germany to sign for Bayer Leverkusen, but the move collapsed at the last minute with the Bundesliga club accusing the player’s advisors of “dubious and disrespectful behavior”.
Liverpool presented a better offer and that convinced the 17-year-old to snub Leverkusen and commit his future to the English giants.
However, the winger won’t be able to join up with Jurgen Klopp’s men for the next campaign due to work permit concerns and as such he is headed to Portugal for a loan spell with champions Sporting Lisbon.
The loan deal has no certain time limit, with Liverpool indicating the player will undergo development in Portugal until he can play in the Premier League.
Fatawu was adjudged the most valuable player at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania after playing a key role in Ghana’s victory.
