Akesse Brempong, a nominee for the Best Gospel Artiste of the Year category of the VGMA, believes that the evolution of gospel music has helped the genre to feature on international stages.
According to him, the new contemporary style of gospel music has taken Ghanaian gospel musicians to the international market. “Contemporary gospel music is the kind of gospel music that has opened Ghanaian music up to global market”.
He believes that the recognition being given to gospel music wouldn’t have been a reality if gospel music had not received such change in the industry. He added that this recognition couldn’t have come at any better time than now. He said this in an interview on TV3 NewDay.
He added that there are more barriers to cross to push the industry further. However, the upcoming gospel artists have bigger roles to play to maintain global recognition.
Akesse Brempong, Cwesi Oteng, OMG music and other gospel musicians have changed the phase of gospel music in Ghana by introducing musical genres such as reggae, dancehall and the likes in the industry.
Speaking on his nomination, Akesse Brempong said he’s fulfilled that his team has been recognised for their hard work.
