For six years now, his name and voice has been associated with the thrilling competition which determines the strongest man in Ghana.
Thierry Nyann, one of the respected sports journalists in the country, has been hosting Ghana’s Strongest since 2015 and there has not been a single year that he hasn’t met the expectations of ardent followers of the show.
People who watch Ghana’s Strongest are fascinated by Thierry’s liveliness and depth as he handles the microphone.
He adds extra excitement to the competition through how he introduces contestants, spurs them on when tasks are difficult and showers them with praises.
More of these on Sunday as the curtain is drawn on the ‘Champion of Champions’ edition which marks the 10th anniversary of Ghana’s Strongest.
Thierry and the TV3 crew are safely in Keta, calmly wrapping up preparations for the grand finale.
Speaking to 3news.com, he shared how the experience has been so far as host.
“It’s been fascinating so far. Six years and it still feels different every season. The kind of strength these men possess and technical ability is just out of this world. Even as the host, I sometimes go open-mouthed at the kinds of tthings they do. This 10th edition is just what it was – the Champion of Champions. I have a good feeling this final will be massive,” he said.
This season is special. Since it was the 10th anniversary, organisers decided to bring on board previous winners and serious challengers to fight for the ultimate. After 13 gruelling weeks, only four remain in contention for the lucrative prizes and the bragging rights.
And as someone who is closer to the action, Thierry believes this season topples the previous seasons.
“This season definitely trumps previous seasons. The men knew they needed to bring on their best displays to stand a chance. Some chickened out. Others were brave enough to contest. It added colour to the game and certainly made it more competitive,” he added.
The four finalists are last season winner Ahmed Boakye, two-time champion Damian Smith, Prosper Dakora, who placed second last year due to a hamstring problem, and then Bright Appiah.
Appiah, a police officier based in Western Region and goes by the moniker SWAT, is the only person without experience of participating in the final.
“Bright Appiah without a doubt the surprise package. He almost didn’t have the right to feature in this final. Straight out an outlier among the contestants but he had been very consistent in the latter stages of the season and deserves the spot in the final. He is the firm underdog.”
The winner will go home with a whopping cash amount, brand new car and an all-expense paid trip to South Africa to participate in the prestigious Arnold Classics Africa.
The grand finale will be telecast live on TV3 Network on Sunday, July 4 from 4pm with all the up-to-minute update on Facbook (TV3 Ghana). Who will be crowned Champion of Champions? Will it be Shaka Zulu, Ahmed Boakye, Prosper Dakora or SWAT?
It’s uncertain, but what is certain is Thierry Nyann mentioning the name of the winner.
