Fraud and security consultant Richard Kumadoe, has pointed out that it will be prudent for the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare to investigate and bring finality to the violence and eight deaths that characterized the 2020 general election in the country.
He said he agrees with legislators Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah who have petitioned the Commission For Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the violence and murders that characterized the 2020 election.
Mr Kumadoe said when the fatal incidents happened in 2020, many Ghanaians said the victims were criminals but when the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery visited where it happened, he said they were not criminals but rather Ghanaian citizens who fell on the wrong side of the law and were allegedly killed by “military officers” who were on election duties.
He stated that the families of the deceased would like to bring finality to the case and thus it is about time that the case is looked into for the conclusions to be made public for Ghanaians to know what happened.
Asked whether the new IGP will be able to bring finality to the case and thus keep the critics quiet, Mr Kumadoe said the Interior Minister is the same person at that portfolio who admitted wrongdoing as the former IGP did, with the same administration hence those who committed these “atrocities” must be brought to book.
Mr Kumadoe said because the country has many elections ahead in the future, it will be prudent for Dr Dampare to bring the case to a closure by bringing the perpetrators to book.
He said the fact that about eight people were killed in an election related violence that did not generate into a civil war in the country, must prompt the authorities to investigate for the country to know who committed it, why did they commit such and on whose authority did they do that and what will be the punitive measures for the perpetrators.
When quizzed on what will be his assessment of the election gone by, he said the country performed below average and that the deployment of the security forces was wrongly done, making their positioning shaky.
Mr Kumadoe said this in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on the Hot Edition program on 3FM, Wednesday, August 25.
He was commenting on the backdrop of the petition by two lawmakers Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of North Tongu and Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah of Ellembelle to CHRAJ to investigate the violence and deaths that characterized the 2020 general election in the country and the lack of finality brought to the killings in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
“Those who committed these atrocities should be brought to book, otherwise we have other elections ahead of us and this particular IGP, it would be prudent if he takes up the case to bring a conclusion to this particular matter. That about eight or more people were shot dead in an election that did not generate into a civil war, we will need to find out who did that, why did they do that? On whose authority did they act and what are the punitive measures, should there be one”, he said..
