The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, says he will not seek re-election in July when the party goes to polls to elect new national executives.
The former Youth Organiser says he is going to concentrate on his new role in public service aside the fact that “the fire in the belly has gone [down]”.
Speaking to Johnnie Hughes on TV3‘s New Day on Thursday, February 3, Mr Awuku, who is now the Director General of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), says it is only prudent to leave when the applause is high.
He insisted that the NPP has other capable members to continue the mantle.
“What I want to do is to have the opportunity to serve all out as a distinguished public servant and I share in Nana Addo’s story when he says ‘Public Service is Public Service’.
“I believe the NPP is gifted with a lot of potentials.”
To him, even the gifts spread across the political spectrum give Ghana a bright future.
Mr Awuku is expected to concentrate on his duties at NLA.
He said he is committed to rebranding the Authority and increasing revenue generation while calling on the staff to see him as a new friend to all of them.
On that score, he asked for cooperation in improving the fortunes of the Authority.
