Will Smith has begged pardon for his altercation with Chris Rock on the Oscar stage. Chris Rock passed an unsavoury joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkette Smith, on stage.
In what will go down forever in Oscar’s history, Will Smith, who won the Best Actor award for his role in ‘King Richard,’ walked toward the comedian and appeared to have slapped him following his joke about Jada’s shaved head.
In 2018, Jada Pinkette Smith opened up about her struggles with alopecia and keeping healthy hair. Since the actress has tried to maintain the cropped look that motivated the offensive joke.
Will Smith, in a tearful acceptance speech, extended his regret to the Academy and his colleagues. He referenced his character from the winning film when he mentioned, “Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said. Just like they said about Richard William.”
“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. I want to apologise to the Academy. I apologise to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment, and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light. Thank you for this moment. I’m thanking you on behalf of Richard and the entire Williams family… Denzel said to me a few minutes ago. He said, ‘At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.”
Accordingly, Will pointed out that “ love will make you do crazy things” whilst appealing to the Academy to excuse his behaviour with a “Thank you and hope the academy invites me back.”
