Western Region’s most listened to radio station Connect FM together with I-Vicky Mends Foundation has feted hundreds of widows in celebrating mothers on Mother’s Day at the forecourt of the Takoradi Shopping Mall.
The feast was to appreciate widows for their selflessness and dedication towards the nurturing and raising of their children singlehandedly.
Hundreds of widows, who came, shared stories of how they were able to raise their children to grow into responsible citizens.
Some recounted with tears how difficult the journey was but continued, nevertheless, to ensure that their children will not become a burden on society.
Station Manager for Connect FM Ransford Nana Osei Asare explained that the station has become an incontrovertible source of information where the general public including mothers turn to for their day-to-day activities, therefore will continue to help in that regard.
“We have programmes that guide, inspire and also uplift people. Our programmes teach real life lessons and we believe most of these mothers pick some of the lessons and use them to guide their children. And as we pride ourselves for that, we also believe that we have to give them a good reason for them to continue to regard the station as a good reference point. So, we want to wine and dine with them to show our appreciation.”
He continued: “We also are aware of the struggles some of them had to go through to raise their children, children some of whom did not see their fathers either for natural reasons or life issues. So, we want use this day to encourage them not to give up. We also want their stories to inspire our mothers to continue to be selfless.”
Chief Executive Officer of I-Vicky Mends Foundation Victoria Nana Amoh explained that she has been treating mothers to a feast every year for the past three years but decided to join Connect FM so as to help increase the number of beneficiaries.
“Before this year’s Mother’s Day, I was thinking of how to expand the programme to appreciate more widows and Connect FM came to mind. We will continue with this collaboration to encourage mothers especially widows for them to know that their efforts are appreciated.”
Some deserving mothers were rewarded for their tolerance, perseverance and selflessness.
