The Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Constituency in the Upper West Region, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has raised concerns regarding the police service in his Constituency.
He alleges that the police in Sissala West are without a mobile vehicle to go about their activities.
Speaking with Johnnie Hughes on TV3‘s New Day breakfast show, the MP indicated that the situation with the police is one of the major challenges faced by the Constituency.
“As I speak, if you go to Sissala West, the police do not have a moving vehicle,” he lamented.
“I’m telling you the truth. This has been a major challenge. The only vehicle for the police in the district as we speak is grounded,” he pointed out.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Add some few days ago presented 1,500 motorbikes to Ghana Police Service to improve the country’s internal security.
According to MP Mohammed Sukparu, they have not benefited from that presentation yet.
“We did not benefit. If it’s yet to get there, they haven’t received. Yes, I saw the presentation, if you’re talking about motorbike. We are not saying the government is not equipping the police but I’m telling you that in the case of Sissala West, that’s what I’m aware of.”
For him, his argument is the fact that the police station in question, Gwollu District Police, is situated in a border town where there are threats of terrorism.
As the Member of Parliament, Mohammed Adams Sukparu is putting measures in place to procure about three motorbikes.
He assured, “As I speak to you as a Member of Parliament, I am procuring about three motorbikes to support the movement of police in the area.”
