Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Madam Linda Ofori-Kwarfo has asked authorities to make it a priority to retrieve the funds from persons captured in the Auditor-General’s report for various infractions and corruption.
He said the government needs money to undertake projects including the free senior high school therefore, these moneys should be collected.
“We need money, the free SHS needs money,” she said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday September 3 while urging authorities to retrieve the cash.
Madam Ofori-Kwarfo further stated that failure to act on the findings of the A-G’s report by leadership is discouraging.
She indicated that every year the infractions and acts of corruption captured in the reports keep increasing, an indication that no action is taken to resolve the situation.
“we are getting work done and the figures keep increasing yet we are not seeing any results,” she said.
She added “the laws are there to prevent these infractions from happening, why are we not asking, for instance, the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) head to act.”
The report mentioned among other things that the Ghana Revenue Authority rescheduled the debt of 28 Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), but the OMCs failed to settle the rescheduled debt totalling GH¢402,049,571.70.
“We recommended that the Commissioner should use legal means to recover the outstanding amount of GH¢402,049,571.70 from the OMCs involved.”
“Outstanding duties and taxes on Oil lifted – GH¢249,800,802.00 Our review disclosed that 17 OMCs between January 2021 and December 2021, did not pay the taxes and duties totaling GH¢249,800,802.28 on 29,995,530 litres of oil lifted to the Ghana Revenue Authority, Customs Division.
“We recommended that the Commissioner, GRA Customs Division should fully recover the amount of GH¢249,800,802.28 from the 17 OMCs without further delay.”
