Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has revealed that he has fond memories of Ghana’s wins against Czech Republic and USA in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
The full-back was a key cog in the side’s runs during those two editions. Ghana reached the round of 16 in 2006 and went one step further in South Africa in 2010.
Victories against then highly-rated Czech Republic in 2006 and the USA in 2010 played important roles in those runs.
“I think my most memorable moments were in the two World Cups. The first one was the 2006 edition where we beat Czech Republic. The second one was when we beat USA in 2010 in South Africa,” he stated on Countdown Qatar.
He went on to praise Asamoah Gyan for his strike against USA in the 2010 edition.
“It was a late goal that Asamoah Gyan scored for the country, for his teammates and for the world to see. It was the game that helped us reach the quarterfinals against Uruguay. It was a very amazing moment that put us in football history in Africa. Ghana is one of the African countries that has reached the World Cup quarterfinals.”
Paintsil featured for West Ham, Fulham and Leicester City among others in his career.
