Mohammed Kudus and Mohammed Salisu led the Black Stars to their first World Cup victory in Qatar, defeating South Korea in their second group game on Monday.
Ghana overcame an early Asian scare when Salisu Mohammed smashed home a loose ball from a cross before Kudus connected with Jordan Ayew’s cross with a fine header.
Following the break, the Koreans capitalised on a couple of errors to tie the game at the Education City stadium. While the Asian Tigers attempted another goal, the Black Stars regained the lead, with Kudus scoring again, this time from a Gideon Mensah cutback, to give Ghana the win.
Here is how the players were rated.
Lawrence Ati Zigi- 7
He made some good stops but wasn’t commanding enough in his area as he allowed two goals.
Tariq Lamptey-5
Made some good attacking runs but wasn’t decisive. Was shaky defensively and paid for it with South Korea’s first goal.
Daniel Amartey-6
With his fast thinking and easy passes from the back, he was composed on the ball and calmed situations.
Mohammed Salisu-7
Delivered when he was called upon. Scored the opening goal but could have done more to prevent South Korea’s first goal.
Gideon Mensah-6
Was a bit lethargic in defence but capped his performance with a fine assist
Salis Abdul Samed-7
Another solid performance from the RC Lens midfielder. Did well to maintain possession and made excellent recoveries.
Thomas Partey-6
Shielded the back four well and surged forward most of the time but could have done more with passes in the attacking third.
Mohammed Kudus-8.5
Undoubtedly, Ghana’s best player. A great performance capped with a brace from the Ajax man.
Andre Ayew-5.5
The Al Sadd player, 32, struggled in the fast-paced game.
Jordan Ayew-7
One of his excellent crosses found Kudus for Ghana’s second goal. Did well to instigate dangerous attacks.
Inaki Williams-5
Athletic Bilbao’s player was subpar by his standards. He will hope to improve in the final group game.

Didn’t do much in attack following the pressure mounted by South Korea

Did what was required of him by stopping the runs Korean attack.
