Chelsea are said to have made a bid of over £106 million to Benfica for Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez.
The midfielder has also been linked with Manchester United.
Chelsea’s offer exceeds Fernandez’s current release clause of €120 million, according to Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha, which reports that Chelsea representatives have arrived in Lisbon to discuss the terms of a potential deal.
The Blues’ current offer puts them in pole position to sign one of Europe’s hottest properties, who had an exception World Cup in Qatar.
The 21-year-old scored a stunning goal against Mexico in the group stages and was a vital cog in Lionel Scaloni’s side, earning him the Young Player of the Tournament award and helping the Albiceleste win their first World Cup since 1986.
