One of the three candidates in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Primaries, Kojo Bonsu, is calling on fellow aspirant Dr Kwabena Duffuor to withdraw his lawsuit and make himself available for engagement with the leadership of the party.
He has also called on former President John Dramani Mahama to join calls for unity and amicable resolution to the current impasse surrounding the primaries.
Dr Duffuor on Tuesday, May 9 secured an injunction against the primaries, originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 13, after raising concerns about the album.
He said there were anomalies with the register after he was provided only 220 out of the 228 requested on a hard drive.
The former Finance Minister petitioned the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) as well. The Commission has since withdrawn all plans to supervise the polls.
But in a statement on Friday, May 12, Kojo Bonsu expressed belief that the issues “can be resolved internally and amicably in unity”.
He said the national executives must engage and continue to deliberate with all stakeholders “in order to resolve the concerns and help the election directorate to run a free, fair and transparent Presidential/Parliamentary primaries”.
He had urged Dr Duffuor to look for the interest of the NDC.
“I urge Dr Duffuor to exercise patience and look at the interest of the party at large as I know he means no malice or trouble but rather expecting the right things to be done for a smooth election which is devoid of any obstacles for all to have a level-playing ground.”
Dr Duffuor’s suit was moved to be heard on Monday, May 15 but the NDC filed for an abridgement of time to have it heard on Friday, May 12.
A determination by the court will give a clear path as to whether the primaries will be held as originally scheduled or not.
