KF Egnatia celebrated their historic victory in the Albanian Superliga last Sunday by paying tribute to the late Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena.
Egnatia clinched their first-ever league title by defeating FK Partizani 1-0 in the final.
In a touching moment, Egnatia players held up Dwamena’s jersey and picture during their celebration.
Dwamena had significantly contributed to their title success, scoring nine goals in 11 matches before his tragic passing.
He collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest on the field during Egnatia’s match against Partizani and died en route to Kavajë Hospital in November 2023. He was laid to rest in his native Ghana in February this year.
Dwamena had previously faced health issues related to his heart, including being fitted with a heart monitor in 2017.
Nevertheless, he persisted in pursuing his passion, ultimately becoming the top scorer in the Albanian league before his untimely demise.
He amassed nearly 200 matches as a professional footballer, with an impressive record of 98 goals and 42 assists at club level.
For the Black Stars, he scored two goals in nine appearances.
