Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick has been appointed the new Barcelona head coach.
Flick replaces Xavi, who was sacked a month after Barcelona had persuaded him to stay on as manager after he initially planned to leave at the end of this campaign.
The 44-year-old Spaniard took the Catalans to the Champions League quarter-finals but lost to Paris Saint-Germain. The Catalan giants also ended the season trophyless casting doubt over Xavi’s future.
Flick comes in with much-needed experience having managed German giants Bayern Munich to a treble in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League.
He then managed the German National team but was soon sacked after a poor run of results in September 2023.

In a statement on Wednesday, Barcelona said it had “chosen a man well known for his teams’ high pressing, intense and daring style of play which has brought him great success at club level and international level, winning pretty much all there is to win in the world of football”.
The former Bayern Munich and Germany boss has signed a two-year deal at the Nou Camp. This move will see him reunited with Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski, 35, who played under Flick at the Allianz Arena for two seasons.
