Former Black Stars defender Anthony Baffoe has expressed his admiration for the rise of women’s football in Ghana.
In recent years, women’s football in Ghana has experienced significant growth, with teams reaching the CAF Women’s Champions League twice. The U20 team recently won gold at the African Games and secured a spot in the U20 World Cup in Colombia. Additionally, the Black Queens have qualified for the Women’s African Cup of Nations after a five-year hiatus.
Baffoe has been particularly impressed by these accomplishments, highlighting the progress and success of women’s football in the country.
“I could see changes especially if you look at the pathway of the Black Queens with the new coach Nora. The way she put the team together, the way they performed also now there are more females taking interest in coaching which is also important. The knowledge exchange educational workshop by the French Federation have also been important as well,” he said.
The former Metz defender was also happy with the turn-up of fans at the venue and encouraged the development of the women’s game in the country as this would help the female players.
“Today you could see two teams with great backing. But in general, I think it’s a fantastic atmosphere, its great for the female players to play under good support. So let us develop it gradually and see where we get to,” he added.
