The Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) at Fiapre near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region has held its 10th congregation ceremony to graduate 774 students, putting the cumulative number of graduates from the University College to 2,681.
The occasion also marked the 18th matriculation of CUCG as 366 new students were inducted into the institution, pegging the total number of students admitted in the 2013/2014 academic year to 1,262.
In an address, Prof. James Hawkins Ephraim, Vice-Chancellor, revealed most of the programmes of the University College are due for re-accreditation and efforts are being made to complete the process, adding: “Contacts have also been made with the University of Ghana in order to finalise the affiliation process that was initiated some time backâ€.
To the graduates, he urged them to justify their inclusion by showing to the global community the stuff they are made of irrespective of the bubbling challenges bedeviling the job-market. “When you find yourself standing in the fire do not think of what to do, but think of what you want to be.â€
The Vice-Chancellor also advised the matriculants to develop a heart of excellence, be time-conscious, be serious academically, and disciplined; and above all ensure moderation underpins their activities. He further entreated them to learn to listen with “the ears of their heartsâ€.
On his part, Most Rev. Philip Nammeh, Chairman of the Governing Council and Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, said CUCG plans to introduce new courses beginning in August 2014 -- Human Resources Management, BSc. Organisational Development and Management, and BSc in Procurement and Supply Chain Management -- at its Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.
The Catholic University College of Ghana, which started in March 2003 with a student population of 50, now boasts 4,500 students.
