The Ghana Insurers Association has sworn-in newly-elected executives to run affairs of the association in Accra last week.
The colourful ceremony attracted high profile personalities from every sector of the financial services sector, top ranking police officers, and five service officers.
The executives sworn in were first Ivan AbubakarAvereyireh as the ninth President of the association.
Avereyireh is the Managing Director of Ghana Life Insurance and holds BSc Administration (Marketing Option) from the University of Ghana. Ivan holds a Diploma from the West African Insurance Institute (WAII) and is also a chartered insurer with the chartered insurance Institution of the United Kingdom (UK).
Avereyireh is also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and fellow of the Ghana Insurance Institute.
The newly-elected President started his insurance career in July 1981 as a clerk with SIC Insurance Company and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Manager in 2008.
Avereyireh was appointed Managing Director of Ghana Life Insurance Company Limited in January 2009. As a growth strategist, Ivan played a critical role in rebirth of Ghana Life bringing to bear on the fortunes of the company his 27 years expertise in company re-engineering, corporate governance sales mobilisation and branch office development in Ghana’s insurance market.
Prior to his election as the ninth President of GIA, he was a board-member and member of the life Council.
The first Vice President/Chairman of the General Council is Kwame Ofori, Executive Director, Enterprise Insurance Company. He joined EIC in 1997 as a Superintendent.
Ofori became a Manager-in-charge of the Fire and Accident department in 1998, and Senior Manager, Underwriting, in 1999.
In 2001, he was appointed General Manager, Operations, a position he held until his appointment as Executive Director in January 2010.
The 2nd Vice President is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada (FCIP), and holds a Bachelor of Arts as well as an Executive MBA in Marketing, both from the University of Ghana, in addition to benefitting from many executive training programmes all over the world.
Eward Forkuo Kyei is the 2nd Vice President and Managing Director of GLICO Life.
Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, he held various management positions within GLICO Group including Executive Director of GLICO Life.
Forkuo is an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), a Fellow of Insurance Institute if Ghana, and a member of the life Council of GIA.
He holds an MBA in Finance and Advance Strategic Management from Cardiff Business School, Wales, UK. Furthermore, he holds an MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from Cass Business School (UK).
He is also a graduate with a BSC in Development Planning from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The other new board member is Alfem Yaw Kuragu, Managing Director General Insuance.
Kuragu is a Chartered Insurer and has a legal background. He is currently one of Ghana’s most respected technical brains in the insurance industry.
Linda Osei-Akoto is the Managing Director of NSIA Ghana Insurance Company.
Patrick Agyekum, Managing Director, Provident Insurance Company is a Chartered Accountant turned insurer.
Aziz Tiibu-Rayamah is Managing Director, UT Life Insurance Company.
Kwasi Offeh is Managing Director, Ghana Union Life; while George Addison is the Managing Director of Star Life Insurance Company.
Kwame-Gazo Agbenyaszie, MD, Metropolitan Insurance Company, is the outgoing President of the Association but has been co-opted as an ex-officio member, with Atsu Menyawovor the Chief Executive Officer, GIA, also a member of the board.
