J.A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited has launched new Yutong luxury intercity buses onto the market as the company celebrates six years of Yutong buses in the country.
The introduction of the new coaches is expected to boost the popularity of Yutong buses on the country’s roads.
Currently, there are more than 1,000 units of Yutong buses in Ghana -- making the brand one of the most patronised buses in the country, with a reputation for good performance and adaptability to the Ghanaian terrain.
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, said introduction of the buses onto the Ghanaian market will help to promote passenger comfort and vehicle safety in the country.
“The Ministry of Transport is enthused because it is going to add onto Ghana’s public transport system buses whose engine and drive-train components have been manufactured to suit the African work conditions.
“Again, it is in consonance with our objective of ensuring a sustainable, accessible, affordable, reliable, effective and efficient transport system,†she said.
Mrs. Mogtari noted that the domination of Yutong buses in the Ghanaian market is a demonstration of the role private sector operators can play to ensure an effective and safe transportation system in the country.
She said the government recognises the role of bus transport in development of the economy, and has resolved to create an enabling environment and support private bus operators to work together to assist in economic activities.
“Bus services in Ghana form a very large and significant component of our transport system, accounting for almost two-thirds of public transport journeys…it is for this reason that government continues to support organisations such as GPRTU and PROTOA in the acquisition, operation and maintenance of buses and other means of mass transportation,†she added.
In Ghana, J.A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited is the sole franchise holder for marketing Yutong Buses in the country after a partnership deal with Yutong Ghana.
Since 2007 the company has brought hundreds of Yutong buses into the country, with sound after-sales service.
Frank Piang, a representative of Yutong, indicated that the company is finalising efforts to establish a warehouse in Tema.
