The 14th Marketing World Awards (MWA) has taken place in Accra, recognising more than 50 organisations and individuals for their contributions to marketing, communications and brand development across West Africa.
The ceremony highlighted achievements across banking, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), public service, hospitality, digital media and advertising. It also acknowledged professionals whose leadership influenced the performance of their organisations during the year.
Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, received the Social Impact Communicator of the Year award for her contribution to impactful national communication.
In the banking category, Absa Bank Ghana received several honours, including Best Banking Brand in Sustainability and Most Impactful Brand Campaign of the Year for its “Your Story Matters” project. The bank’s Marketing and Corporate Relations Director, Nana Essilfuah Tamakloe, was also named Marketing Icon of the Year.
Standard Chartered Bank Ghana won Best Bank in Digital Marketing, Marketing Team of the Year and an award for Excellence in Thought Leadership (Women Empowerment). Fidelity Bank Ghana was also announced Financial Brand of the Year.
In public service, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Ghana received Public Sector Brand of the Year (Transportation & Licensing). The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, was also recognised as Stakeholder Engagement Leader of the Year.
Ghana Water Ltd, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority, SSNIT , Bank of Ghana, Ghana Free Zones Authority all claimed top public-sector brand honours in their respective sectors.
The FMCG category featured several winners. Unilever Ghana PLC was adjudged Most Innovative FMCG Brand and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chris Wulff-Caesar, was named Business Transformation Leader of the Year.
Pepsodent Charcoal won Oral Care Brand of the Year, with its “Talk to the Dentist” initiative receiving the Social Impact Award. Vaseline also picked up Skin Care Brand of the Year.
In hospitality, Labadi Beach Hotel was awarded Luxury Hotel Brand of the Year and the Managing Director, David Eduaful, received Marketing Trailblazer of the Year. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was also named Premium Smartphone Brand of the Year.
Individuals who received recognition included Esi Mills-Robertson of Fidelity Bank, Asiedua Addae of Standard Chartered, Henry Nii Dottey of UBA Ghana and TikTok creator Quecy was named MWA Top TikTok Influencer of the Year.
Nigeria also had a strong presence.
Four Pulley Limited (FPL) Nigeria was named Out-of-Home Agency of the Year, with its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lanre Ashaolu, recognised as Out-of-Home (OOH) Personality of the Year. Intense Digital also won Digital Marketing Agency of the Year.
Promasidor Nigeria delivered a standout performance, taking away two major individual honours. Category Manager Donatus Ukpai was crowned Marketing Personality of the Year (Nigeria), while Media and Equity Manager Olawande Meyungbo took home Digital Marketing Leader of the Year.
Other winners included Brands Optimal, which was recognised as Brand Experience & Activation Company of the Year, with its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Otis Ojeikhoa honoured as Experiential Marketing Trailblazer of the Year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Akin Naphtal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of InstinctWave and Group Publisher of MarketingWorld Magazine stated that the ceremony celebrates the creativity and resilience shaping West Africa’s marketing sector, recognising not only achievements but also the people and brands driving innovation and setting new industry standards.
“It is an honour to gather once again to celebrate the brilliance, creativity, and resilience that continue to shape the marketing and communications landscape in West Africa. Tonight, we recognise not just success stories, but the people and brands who have dared to think differently, innovate boldly, and set new standards in a rapidly evolving industry,” he said.
He noted that over the years, the Marketing World Awards has become a recognised benchmark for excellence, serving as a platform that celebrates leading brands, visionary leaders and high-performing organisations delivering strong consumer value across the industry.
“Over the years, the Marketing World Awards has earned its place as a benchmark for excellence, a platform that honours iconic brands, visionary leaders, and high-performing organisations that consistently deliver exceptional consumer value,” he revealed.
Mr. Naphtal added that “today I am proud to say that MWA stands as a truly continental recognition platform, championing marketing excellence across Africa’s vibrant markets, even as the east African edition of the MWA will gear up for next week in Nairobi Kenya.”
He concluded that the industry must consider its future, noting that marketing is evolving rapidly and Artificial Intelligence is now reshaping how brands connect with audiences, analyse data and communicate.
