Ghana’s leading telecommunications giant, MTN, has added Ohum festival to the numerous list of festivals the company supports periodcially in the country.
This makes Ohum festival, which is mainly celebrated by the Akyems the 23rd festival MTN is supporting since the company begun their operations in Ghana.
The company donated GHC 5,000.00 cash, GHC 500.00 worth of airtime, assorted wines and hampers worth GHC 1,000.00 to the chiefs and people of Old Tafo in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region as they mark this year’s Ohumkan festival.
At a short rich cultural presentation at the palace of the Tafohene, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV at Akyem Old Tafo, Prince Owusu Nyarko, the acting Commercial Manager who led a team from MTN reiterated MTN’s core social responsibilities to supporting communities in the country.
“We at MTN are proud to support this year’s Ohumkan festival because of the respect we have for traditions and culture. We cannot let this all-important significant celebration pass without letting Akyem Tafo know how much we appreciate them”.
“This is the 23rd festival we are supporting, and we will continue to put smiles on the faces of our cherished customers. I want to inform you all that during this year’s festival we are going to upgrade the network here for families, friends and loved ones to quickly and easily share videos and pictures with other relatives on every social media portal. We are also going to organize a number of promotions during the festive season to give out gifts and other valuable souvenirs from MTN”.
Mr. Nyarko added that, “MTN has come for every Ghanaian and because of that we want everyone to own a portion of the company that cares for you and that is why I will encourage you all to buy the MTN shares which is just GHC 7.50p”.
He used the opportunity to caution the chiefs and residents about the activities of mobile money fraudsters.
On his part, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, the Akyem Tafohene, who was appreciative of the kind gesture, thanked the team from MTN.
“We are indeed surprised about this kind gesture and on behalf of the people of Akyem Tafo I would want to say a big thanks to staff and management of your company. We know anytime we call on you, you will be there to support us so I will entreat you to continue the good work”.
As part of this year’s Ohumkan celebration, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, will lead a massive health walk through the principal streets of Akyem Tafo, sit in state at a grand durbar, and climax it with a football game where Asante Kotoko is expected to participate in.
