The Ghana Railways Development Authority has started demolishing structures in the way of the Tema to Mpakadan rail line at, Blue Gallery on the Accra-Aflao road.
Works on the rail line are progressing steadily, but these structures along the stretch were preventing the progress at certain sections.
The 99-kilometre Tema-Mpakadan Railway project is expected to connect the south through the Volta Region to the northern part of Ghana.
Several structures, farmlands and residential buildings along the stretch have been demolished and the rightful owners are being compensated.
However, the Minister for Railways Development, Joe Ghartey says encroachers will not be paid any compensation.
Monday’s demolishing saw no resistance from the encroachers who salvaged what could be saved as police officers supervised the exercise.
Work is expected to be completed in June 2020.
