The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh on Tuesday paid a surprise working visit to Likpe-Bala and Hlefi Police Stations in the Oti and Volta Regions.
The visit was to acquaint himself with the working conditions of police officers in rural areas.
Officers at the Station expressed joy at the IGP’s visit and said it will motivate them to work with more commitment.
The visit revealed the lack of logistics with some of the stations which impede their work.
At the Likpe-Bala Police Station, for instance, the Station Officer, Chief Inspector Attigah appealed to the IGP to provide them with logistics including motorbikes for patrols.
James Oppong-Boanuh was only earlier this month handed a 2-year contract extension and made the substantive Inspector-General of Police, following the exit of David Asante Appeatu.
Following his assumption of office, he has taken a number of decisions in a bid to improve the general security of the country as well as ensure discipline in the police service.
Recently, he directed that all motor traffic operations of the police must be supervised by a senior officer to address the cases of extortion, unnecessary delay and other acts of indiscipline by officers.
He has also ordered the interdiction of some officers who were found to have gone against the service code.
