A member of the Council of State, Sahanun Mugtare, has died aged 74.
He was one of the appointed members on the Council of State.
He was pronounced dead at the Upper West Regional hospital on Monday night at about 11:30 pm.
Sahanun Mugtare was buried on Tuesday afternoon at around 2 pm in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The cause of death is not yet known.
He served as Upper West regional Minister from 2001 to 2005 and later as Ambassador to Burkina Faso from 2006 to 2009 under the Kufuor administration.
Before joining mainstream politics he was a teacher at the Wa Senior High School.
He also served as the Upper West Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party between 1991 and 2002.
He is fondly remembered for his role in the establishment of the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies as well as being known as farmer aside from his political life
Sahanun Mugtare is survived by two wives and 10 children.
