The winner of the 2021 Literacy Challenge organised by Citi FM will be Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s National Instant Schools‘ Ambassador.
The winner will also walk home with a laptop and a year-long free internet.
This was disclosed by the Head of the Vodafone Ghana Foundation, Reverend Amaris Nana Agyei Pebi, in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday.
“We are excited to crown the overall winner. Through our Kindred partners, we are presenting the winner with what we call connected learning. The winner will be our National Instant Schools’ Ambassador. This person will drive all our activities with schools across Ghana. Depending on the drive, the person might have to go outside the country. The winner will also take home a laptop and will have an all-year free internet.”
“All the 10 finalists will get tablets and MiFi devices from Vodafone,” he added.
Reverend Nana Pebi also commended all the finalists for making it through to this point of the competition.
“All of them are winners. They have been able to make it through thousands of entries to this critical stage, and it is very commendable.”
He pledged to support Citi FM/TV in its educational programmes.
He said the partnership with Citi TV/Citi FM is the beginning of a long walk, “and we are excited that the media house is also passionate about education.”
“This challenge pushes the students to learn more. Most students retired their memory in the wake of the pandemic, and this is a good way to help them exercise their memory. Education is the best tool to change the world. The challenge has come in good time to ensure that their minds are sharper,” he added.
The Literacy Challenge seeks to identify and reward the most outstanding ‘all-round’ JHS student in Ghana.
All ten finalists will be competing in a classic quiz competition on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Alisa Hotel.
The event is strictly by invitation.
The winner of the quiz walks away with a whopping GHS10,000 as well as other prizes from the sponsors.
This year, interested participants wrote an essay on the topic: “As an aspiring presidential candidate, in not less than 600 words, write a convincing manifesto speech that is intended to fix the country and to bring hope in political governance.”
The competition is powered by 97.3 Citi FM, with support from Citi TV.
The Vodafone Ghana Foundation as part of the Kindred Partners is one of the partners of this year’s The Literacy Challenge.
About Instant Schools
Instant Schools is the largest philanthropic programme in the Vodafone Group Foundation’s 25-year history. It aims to provide millions of young people in Africa with free access to online learning materials developed in conjunction with Learning Equality – a leading not-for-profit provider of open-source educational technology solutions.
In Ghana, it is being deployed with education partners, including the Ministry of Education and other local educational institutions.
Instant Schools will provide access to essential educational resources, including subjects such as Maths and Science, from primary to the secondary level. Initially, this content will be high-quality global content, provided by Khan Academy. The intention is to curate the content to align with the local curriculum. The fact that the content is accessible via mobile phones for free will also help to reach children who do not benefit from traditional schooling.
